First day at Credebt

Prior to arriving at my internship, I was extremely nervous. Although I interned at a bank last summer, I knew this would be a vastly different experience. From different program platforms to contrasting daily activities and a new office culture, I began identifying differences that I would learn to adapt to. My nerves were compounded by worries regarding new forms of transportation. The acclimation to a new country includes unanticipated differences including adjusted timing and bus schedules. Despite the endless planning beforehand I never felt truly ready to begin work on the first day.

I am lucky to be interning alongside one of my roommates, John. This allowed us to figured out the bus schedule together and make our way into the city. Knowing that I would not have to figure everything out alone made the entire experience much less nerve racking as I was going into the new environment with a familiar face.

Upon our arrival at the office, we were greeted with friendly faces and given a chance to speak with our supervisor, Neil. He answered our questions, as well as gave us recommendations regarding Ireland attractions. His kind demeanor and emphasis on his availability to us further reassured me. I walked out of the meeting knowing this experience was focused on allowing us to absorb as much information as possible.

The generosity was extended into lunch, where the company John and I are interning for covered our lunch at the next door cafe for the duration of our internship. Upon our return, we were checked on consistently, with our supervisors ensuring that we had all necessary logins as well as access to a Zoom training program. The first day, although primarily composed of housekeeping tasks, was a great indication of the company’s positive culture. We were briefed on how we would receive our tasks through a tagging system and after our zoom I felt equipped with the necessary tools to tackle the financial matters for the remainder of the week.

During the bus ride home, John and I reflected on our experience, both of us expressing excitement for the remainder of the summer and gratitude that we were so pleased with out placement in a company with an environment that aims to ensure our success. We also felt at ease knowing that we would be there to help each other if we were confused on any matters. I look forward to seeing how this experience continues.
