John Rodgers Ireland Week 1

Growing up, I have always wanted to visit Ireland because it was where my ancestors lived. I am very thankful for the opportunity to immerse myself into Ireland for 2 months. During my 6 hour 45 minute plane ride from New York to Dublin, I was both excited and nervous for this trip. This would only be my second time in Europe and I was a bit of a rookie when it came to traveling so I was excited to expand my horizons. After getting minimal sleep on the plane, I finally landed in my motherland.  I was ready to become acclimated into a new environment.

One of the things I heard about Ireland was the large pub culture. My parents would always take me to Molly’s (an Irish pub in NYC) growing up and it became my favorite place to eat due to the great food and friendly environment. Now I can experience a real Irish pub and have a pint of Guinness with some locals. I look forward to mingling with some of the Irish in the pub to learn about their culture.

One of the enticing aspects about this program is the opportunity to work as a finance intern with Credebt in Dublin. Before my first day of work, I was not sure what to expect. I was happy to find out that I would be working with one of my roommates, Ariana. Upon arrival to work, we were welcomed with open arms from our supervisor, Neil. He was very friendly and I was able to find out that he is a Celtics fan. I told him that the Mavericks will win the NBA Finals and he was not too fond of it. We also spoke briefly about the similarities between New York and Dublin. One of the things I found funny was the regular use of curse words is the same for New Yorkers and the Irish.

Neil treated Ariana and I to lunch on the first day and I was blown away by the sandwich I had. It could have possibly been in my top 5 sandwiches so I look forward to getting that in the near future. As the day concluded I was pleasantly surprised with the day and was excited to continue working for Credebt in the future.

As a New Yorker, something I appreciate is a robust transit system. Dublin has a variety of buses that goes all around the city. I plan to get well informed about the transit system to make my life easier.
