Settling in

With almost 10 days under my belt, it is safe to say that I am comfortably settled into my new home in Dublin. In my internship, each day got more and more comfortable, with my supervisor even giving me a key to the office. I got let out a couple hours early this first week, which is always a nice surprise. One of my coworkers gave me a suggestion of some good pubs and bars near UCD. One of my favorite aspects of my internship is sitting through different calls, and listening to what the customer wants, and how the company can help them out. I look forward to advancing my financial knowledge, and helping JW Accountants more in the coming weeks.

On Saturday, we took a day trip to the Wicklow Mountains and Kilkenny. On the way down to the mountains, we had a very scenic view with mountains and various animals. On our first hike, we walked through different sites, saw a stream, and ended up a beautiful lake with a backdrop of mountains. On the way back, I got a coffee, which really woke me up for the day. One of my highlights of the day was leaving the trail, where our bus hit a very narrow stone wall. Myself, along with my friends were sitting in the back of the bus, making us very close to the crash scene. I remember looking back and watching the wall dismember and do a complete shift. The lady on the bus ride gave us some insightful information on the countryside of Ireland.

Fast forward about 2 hours, we made it to Kilkenny. This small town was everything that I imagined Ireland to be, with the cobble roads, flags hanging, and all of the people having a good time. We went to this cool pub, and got a good bite to eat before our tour of the castle. One thing that I noticed at the Pub was how the waitress did not write down all of our meals, she just memorized them in her head (there was 9 of us). The castle was absolutely beautiful from the outside, and had really cool artifacts in the inside. One of my favorites was I think the “Giant Irish Deer”, with the antlers wingspan being abnormally large.

In a couple of days, we will be traveling to the west coast of Ireland, and visiting the beautiful Galway. We will visit a sheep farm, the cliff of Moher, and Rossavel. I am really excited to visit a whole another part of the country, and compare it to Dublin.
