While everyone else went to the Wicklow Mountains on Saturday June 8th, Cat, Nicole, Sam, Bella, and I flew to London. The reason we flew to London was to go to the Phillies vs. Mets game at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Although we had the time of our lives at the game, it was definitely not the most eventful thing that happened that night.

While in Tesco in London, about to buy the most amazing chocolate in the world, I realized that my wallet was not in my bag. I figured maybe I left it in the Uber that we took into the city, but when we got back into the same Uber, it wasn’t there. A few months ago when Ivy Kepner told us that someone would definitely lose their wallet, I did not think I would be the first to do it. I have learned in incidents like this there is nothing you can do about it so you need to stay calm. While scrolling through Instagram during the long Uber ride back to our hotel room, I noticed that someone I did not follow was trying to directly message me. When I opened the message, I saw the words “Hi, are you in London? Did you lose your wallet?” At that moment in time, I felt so relieved but also realized that there are good people in this world. I could not believe someone picked up my wallet from the side of the road, found me on Instagram and mailed my wallet back to me. When we go to a different country, we always assume the worst of the people there. All you hear before you go is negative stereotypes about the people, but it is not always true. There are certainly bad people out there, but we should stop assuming everyone is like that. The fact that these people helped me so much changed my perspective and my mindset.

Although I lost my wallet, I had the time of my life in London. Going to an American baseball game in London was the opportunity of a lifetime and something that I will never forget. It made me proud to see so many people, especially Americans, go to London to watch a baseball game. I have learned to appreciate how much pride Americans have and how passionate they are about the things they love. Going to this game made me feel like I was back at home for a moment and made me appreciate our country more.
