Jack Codding – Week 4 Blog

For this week, I want to write about the trip that I took this week for my internship. After being told that I was going to Belfast on my trip Tuesday, I instead went to the Game of Thrones Studio Tour. Being an avid fan of the show, I was delighted at this surprise. Upon walking into the studio tour I was blown away. Two other interns were on the trip as well, and as we walked into the studio two employees came up to us to tell us we had a private tour. The was very helpful since it was two people who knew very much about the show and were very excited to talk about it. I learned a lot about the show and saw many of the real sets, costumes, and props that were used during filming. Something I learned about was that 30% of the show was filmed at its exact location and that majority of the people hired as background actors were people who lived in Ireland. Irish people have great pride in this work as Game of Thrones helped put Ireland on the map, and this was due to its extreme beauty. I thought about how the show has affected Ireland and it has been extremely beneficial to tour companies like the one I am interning at, but also the local people who have been hired to talk about something they care so deeply about. This studio was built in 2018, and were searching for a company to partner with them for tours during the week. For my company this is a great opportunity. Being able to get a partnership with a unique tour experience would be mutually beneficial. On the way back from the tour I reflected on how this was probably the best marketing experience that I have had so far. Especially from the side of a company marketing their products and from the side of trying to tour and work on getting a partnership for the travel company I am interning at. This is inciteful but also at the same time very good real life experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour because of its contents but also got out a real learning experience from attending the trip. Of all tours I have been on so far this seems to have been my favorite and I hope other people take the time to visit it.
