Lauren Joyce Week 4

Starting on last Thursday, we had a really nice meal at Merchant’s Arch. The multistory restaurant incorporated an ample amount of photos on the wall, a vestigate of its history which I found cool. As for my internship last week I organized press packs, have been keeping up with their coverage and updating them in reports and had a few writing assignments. Overall I feel super comfortable in the work environment, am able to listen to music all day and just flow through tasks easily. On Friday my credit card took a HIT, booking trips for both Scotland and Amsterdam in the upcoming weeks. I don’t think I could express how exciting this was though, I can’t wait for these itineraries to happen. Planning is half the fun. After minimal sleep, on Saturday I spent a majority of the bus ride to Blarney Castle sleeping, also with a phone with about half as much battery as I’d like. Nonetheless looking out the window at the rolling hills or less attractive industrialized areas, was kind of a vibe (and a nice break from what felt like an over-scheduled, busy week)

Throughout the day on Saturday we visited the Rock of Cashel, and more distinctly Blarney Castle. On the way we stopped at the gas station (same one as the last) and I had another dirty chai latte which was again, perfect!! The wait was long but considering how much of a “must” visiting the top was from a tourist perspective, our group didn’t mind. We eventually headed to Cahir Castle, whos tour was captivating and revolved around how intentional the destructive design was. I was surprised how intricate the details of the architecture were.

Later on Monday we went to Kilmainham Gaol, a prison where we learned tons of individual stories of the prisoners there, starting in 1796 spanning until the early 20th century. The conditions were dreary, though it was by far the nicest weather since we’ve been here which was a stark contrast to the small cells and crumbling walls. Afterwards we went to Phoenix Park right out of the city which I’d do anything to be closer to. The Park was huge, had deer and would be sick to run in. Nonetheless Cassidy and I shared airpods listening to music in prep for our big concert week that’s coming up. Prompted by dinner, Gourmet Burger Bar then was added to my Dublin burger list with the highest score so far (9!!) Later on swam at Vico Baths where luckily the adrenaline of trying not to head into the rocks cut off the recognition of how cold the water was. Game night followed, probably one of my favorite days in Dublin so far.

1st stop: Rock of Cashel, so well preserved 😀
Long awaited Blarney Stone
On our way out Saturday night!!!
Swimming @ Vico, pretty empty, hard to tell but waves were huge
Went to the beach too, this day was 65 out. Touched the water but we didn’t reach the ocean
