Jenna Galla: Ireland Week 5

This week has flown by so quickly! I can’t believe we’re already over halfway through our trip. Time seems to be passing faster and faster by the day.

Last Thursday, we attended the Irish House Party. It was an incredible experience to be immersed in Irish music and dance culture. The musicians were exceptionally talented, and I particularly enjoyed learning about the uilleann pipes, a traditional Irish instrument. It was also fascinating to watch the Irish dancer, as I used to practice Irish dance when I was younger. Seeing the dance live brought back many memories. We went do dinner beforehand, which was delicious.

On Saturday, we experienced the Gaelic Games, which turned out to be an interesting day despite the constant rain. The weather didn’t dampen our spirits, and we had fun regardless. I learned how to play hurling and Irish football, both of which were thrilling. Getting a bit competitive added to the excitement. I particularly enjoyed football since it resembles soccer, which I have played my entire life.

The weekend was both relaxing and enjoyable. I tried my hand at poker for the first time, and although I’m still learning, I find it quite fun. My friend from Bucknell, who is on another trip in Limerick, came to stay with me. It was wonderful introducing her to everyone and showing her around Dublin. We explored the city together, visiting various cafes and parks.

On Monday, we visited the Guinness Storehouse. It was a fascinating experience from start to finish. The exhibits were super fun, colorful, and creative. I learned so much about the history and brewing process of Guinness. The highlight was tasting Guinness the way their professional tasters do. The proper technique involves breathing in, taking a big swig, swishing it around, swallowing, and then exhaling with your mouth closed. It was my first-ever taste of Guinness, and I was pleasantly surprised. While I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it either. The Gravity Bar at the top of the storehouse offered an amazing view of the city, providing a perfect end to the tour. The panoramic view of Dublin from above was simply breathtaking, making the experience all the more memorable.

Next week is going to be jam-packed with exciting events! I have three concerts lined up in just four days, which is going to be an incredible whirlwind of music and energy.

On top of that, it’s the Fourth of July, and even though we’re in Ireland, we still have to celebrate our American Independence Day. We’re planning to eat hot dogs to mark the occasion. It might feel a bit different celebrating abroad, but I am looking forward to it.

I can’t believe we have only three weeks left. Time has flown by, but there are still so many adventures ahead!
