Jack Codding – Ireland Week 7

For week 7 we had trips that were different from our usual itinerary. For this week’s trips, we mostly went on hikes and saw the scenic areas of Ireland. We hiked around the Hill of Uisneach which is considered to be very connected to mythology and historical significance. The hill is also associated with the legendary figure Eochaid Airem and is one of the royal sites of Gaelic Ireland. The hill also holds ceremonial value to the Irish as it was used as a place to for the Uisneach Fire Festival was held. This fire was used to mark the start of the Celtic Summer and would be used to mark each of the four different seasons. Over the centuries, Ushneach Hill has remained a symbol of Irish cultural heritage, embodying the spiritual and historical narratives of Ireland. Its enduring significance is reflected in its continued role as a site for festivals and cultural events, preserving the legacy. Additionally, we visited the Speaking Stone in the morning where I learned that if someone touches it that is worthy of being the king of Ireland, then it will make a loud sound that would be heard across all of Ireland. This week at work I have worked at a different office which is the yard for my companies buses. I was interested in this small change because of how the other employees would act around me as an intern who has been with them around 6 weeks already. I also got to see another intern in the company that I spent the first three weeks with, but then she got moved into this different office department. Also while being at this office I had to take care of a few different tasks including dealing with the buses and translating the itineraries into different languages. Finally, I got to meet people’s families. This includes meeting both Nicole’s family and Lauren’s family. I have realized, as the trip is slowly winding down, everyone is starting to realize that we have less and less time together. I appreciate all the friends that I have made while being on this trip, as well as strengthening them with the people I had already previously known. After being so close to each other for six weeks, we all as a group really know everyone. I hope that when we get back to school, we are able to set up a time to meet together as a group.

Photo of Trim Castle, which was a part of the day tour that we attended. Great weather for the trip and clear skies!!

Photo of the mysterious rocks with faces on them. They are said to be very spiritual and influential to the land.

Pictures of cows spotted at Ushnagh Hill.

Car spotted outside where I work, very random spotting in Ireland.
