Jenna Galla: Ireland Week 7

I can’t believe there is only one week left! I am not ready for this adventure to end yet.

This week has been jam-packed with excitement and adventure. I embarked on a solo day trip to Edinburgh, Scotland, a city brimming with charm and history. Wandering through the cobblestone streets, I explored the stunning architecture and soaked in the vibrant atmosphere. I visited iconic sites such as Edinburgh Castle, Victoria Street, and the Royal Mile. I also wandered through numerous shops, restaurants, and historical places, including a delightful stop at Mary’s Milk Bar, renowned for its ice cream. The city offered breathtaking views and was alive with street performers, quaint shops, and cozy cafes. It was my first time traveling solo, and I absolutely loved it!

On Saturday, I ventured to the Celtic Boyne Valley in County Meath, Ireland. The Boyne Valley is full of ancient history and myths, home to some of the most significant prehistoric sites in Ireland, including the UNESCO World Heritage site of Newgrange. This ancient passage tomb, built over 5,000 years ago, predates both Stonehenge and the Great Pyramids of Egypt. It was a beautiful day, and my friend who was visiting me was able to join, making the day extra enjoyable.

Monday brought another adventure as we ventured to Howth. I spent the day hiking along the cliffs, enjoying the breathtaking views of the Irish Sea. It was a very fun hike, and despite a bit of rain, it was super enjoyable. It was not too challenging, and it was very peaceful being immersed in nature. Afterward, we got fish and chips from Beshoff Bros, which is supposedly the best in Ireland. They were really good, but the seagulls were stalking us, making eating the meal a bit of a challenge! We explored the town a bit more, soaking in the quaint charm of the coastal village.

One of the highlights of the week was watching the Euro final, where Spain clinched the victory. Experiencing this in Europe was truly special. The energy was palpable as people gathered in pubs and squares to cheer for their teams. The excitement and camaraderie were infectious, and it was an unforgettable experience to witness Spain’s triumph in such a lively atmosphere. It was a cool and exhilarating experience to be a part of this massive event while in Europe.

There’s still so much to do and so little time left. One week feels like a blink of an eye, yet I know I will make the most of every moment. The journey so far has been incredible, and I can’t wait to see what the next week holds.

Jenna, I really like how your writing creates a vivid picture in my mind. Every detail adds so much to your narrative writing style. I am happy to read that your solo trip to Edinburgh went so well. I missed you back in Dublin. I also enjoyed watching the Euro final with you. I’m so happy to have gotten to know you over these past few weeks, and I can’t wait to see what our last week has in store!

That picture of Edinburgh is so so great!! How lush it was there. I’m glad you were able to sneak off and complete that trip and I think a solo travel is pretty impressive. I didn’t know that the UNESCO site come before the pyramids, cool fact. Can’t wait for Amsterdam and I’m so lucky to have gained such a great friend over the last few weeks.
