Galway!

This week has been by far one of the most exciting since I’ve got here. We started out with a visit to The National Museum of Ireland where we were taken on a tour and learned lots about Irish history, and the path they took to modern day. Specifically, we learned about the hill of Tara, which Tradition is the inauguration place and seat of the High Kings of Ireland; it also appears in Irish mythology. We learned about the importance of Tara in Irish History and how it plays a role in Ireland today.

Later in the week we had an early morning, and needed to catch the bus to Galway. On our way to Galway we stopped a few times, including the Cliffs of Moher. They were so beautiful I couldn’t even believe they were real!

A stunning view of The Cliffs of Moher.

The next morning, we got up early to get breakfast and catch the bus again. Although I didn’t read the itinerary and didn’t really know where we were going, it was a fun surprise to see we were taking a ferry. Although some people didn’t really enjoy the ferry ride due to it swaying back and forth constantly, I enjoyed the views on the way there. About an hour later we arrived at our destination! the Aran islands. When we got to the island we immediately rented bikes. There wasn’t much on the island besides one or two places to eat and a few houses every now and then. But I will say the views were beautiful!

After our visit to the island we rested up and was back at it again the next day! We had another early morning as we headed to Kylemore Abbey. This I think was by far my favorite part of the trip, the castle was absolutely beautiful and so relaxing.

This is Kylemore Abbey, a beautiful castle where some still live!

Finally, the best for last! The sheep farm. we got to see how Border Collies or “sheepdogs” herd up the sheep and can follow directions from over a mile away. This was super interesting and was amazing to see. We also got to feed lamb and hold them!
