Braden Beagle: Dublin Week 5

My fifth week here in Dublin has been absolutely amazing so far! Each week is a new adventure and the excursions has made it extremely fun as they have helped me explore places and things to do in Ireland that I would not have otherwise thought to visit. On Thursday last week, which was the day after my last blog left off, we got to visit the “Irish House Party”. It was an extremely fun night where we got a very good three-course dinner and after we got to enjoy some live classic Irish music from the performers that were there as well as seeing some traditional Irish tap dancing. After this fun excursion we went and explored the city a bit more and stopped by some fun pubs!

The next adventure we had was experiencing the Gaelic games on Saturday. It was definitely an interesting day as a lot of the streets were backed up as there were many events going on in Dublin during the day and it was also raining which slowed the buses down even more. As a result of this, a lot of us were a bit late too the excursion as the bus schedule was extremely messed up and behind. My apartment and I ended up walking almost an hour in the rain to make it there after taking our first bus as our connecting bus didn’t show up. As bad as it may sound, it was actually pretty fun getting to walk there as we got to see a lot of the city of Dublin that we haven’t been to before. We did end up finally making it there and still got to enjoy most of the experience of the Gaelic games. First, we got to learn about the traditional Irish sport of hurling, which is a game played with sticks and a ball that you have to try and pass and score goals with. It was definitely a bit tricky as I have never tried playing the game before. Next we played Gaelic football, which is very similar to soccer but you can actually use your hands during some parts of the game as well as your feet. Both of the games were very fun even though we were playing in the rain, but honestly I thought that was part of the fun of it. After this, some of us went out to a really good ramen restaurant which was great on a cold rainy day.

On Monday, we got to see the very famous Guinness Storehouse. It was fun to be able to see all of the ingredients that Guinness is made out of, and it was also a very cool visual experience with different rooms. We also learned the proper way to drink Guinness to taste all of the different flavors that you are supposed to taste while sipping on it. This week was a great amount of fun and I’m looking forward to talking about all of my awesome experiences in the last few weeks to come!
