Hiya!! This week was soooooo much fun. Did a bit of work and even went to a WHOLE DIFFERENT COUNTRY (what??!!). Let’s discuss.
Per usual, class was fabulous. The discussions were rich and engaging, with each student providing thoughtful contributions to the subjects at hand. It was the perfect start to the day before heading to Kilmainham Gaol in the afternoon. Despite hearing of this before, I had never actually learned anything significant about it. The tour was surprising and engaging. We walked through the prison as our tour guide recounted tales of the prisoners past, many of which had been involved in a number of riots, most notably the Easter Rising of 1916. I appreciated the insight and learning about James Connolly, the man who arguably made Ireland what it is today. I swear I could never get sick of learning more about the country I originally came from.
My internship this week was awesome! My favorite (and only) coworker Isabella and I were basically tied at the hip all week. We did a ton of work and we were surprisingly very productive. She was also watching over her friend’s dog for the week, so we had a fluffy front of house assistant. It made the days pass even quicker with a fluff ball resting in my lap while I wrote our company newsletters. Of course I had to make a few pit stops at my absolute favorite café in Dublin, Beanhive, to get my favorite meal: a perfect combo on ciabatta and a vanilla chai (that they also do little drawings on EEK they’re so cute).
The most exciting and notable part of my week was leaving Thursday night to go to SCOTLAND??!! Bro. It was so cool. I am STILL getting culture shock at the fact that people here can just hop to a completely different country for the weekend. The hour and a half flight it took to get from here to Scotland took half the time it takes for me to do the first leg of how long it takes me to get to school. It is really kicking in just how massive the United States is compared to Europe. It’s mind blowing. Madelyn, Lauren and I went in with a very rough idea of what we wanted to do. I loved traveling with them because while we all wanted to get out there and see as much as we could, we left our schedule open so that we could wander around without being constrained to a rigid schedule. With this we went to the National Museum, National Gallery, Princes Park, all over Old and New Town, The Edinburgh Castle, Victoria Street, and the Royal Mile/High Street. We ate the most amazing food, such as Mary’s Milk Bar, and even picked up a few souvenirs for the way home (aka the most amazing fudge and this INCREDIBLE cherry red leather jacket from our favorite vintage store that I absolutely scored on (it was also authentic Italian leather for a fraction of the price)). ALSO on Saturday we went on a hike and saw HIGHLAND COWS THEY WERE SO CUTE I LOVE THEM!! We had the cutest and most convenient Airbnb just outside the city that was the cherry on top of a perfect weekend. I could talk on and on, but for the sake of time, I’ll close out here.
Can’t wait to see what next week brings (I have a feeling it will be a good one ;))
