Bennett McKeon Week 6 Blog

Six weeks into this journey, the adventure continues to captivate me with its endless discoveries and meaningful experiences. This weekend was no exception, as we embarked on an exciting trip from Dublin to Belfast, delving into historical narratives and marveling at natural wonders.

Our exploration began with a visit to Titanic Belfast, the world’s largest Titanic exhibition. This state of the art presentation spans nine galleries, taking visitors on a captivating journey through the life of the Titanic. From its conception in early 1900s Belfast to its tragic maiden voyage and eventual discovery of the wreck, the exhibition brought the story to life in a deeply engaging and poignant way. The combination of imagery, objects, reconstructions, and interactive features provided a rich, immersive experience that made us feel connected to the real people who built and sailed on the Titanic.

The highlight of the afternoon was the famous Black Taxi Tour. This insightful tour took us through Belfast’s storied neighborhoods, shedding light on the complex political landscape of the Troubles. Our driver, a veteran of the city’s divided history, shared stories and detailed accounts of the tensions between the Catholic and Protestant communities. Viewing the iconic murals, which vividly depict this turbulent period, added a profound layer to our understanding of Belfast’s past.

The next morning began with a hearty breakfast at the hotel before setting off for the stunning Carrick a Rede rope bridge. The 20 minute walk to the bridge offered breathtaking views of the Irish coastline, building up the anticipation for crossing the iconic bridge. The natural beauty of the area, with its unique geology, flora, and fauna, was truly awe inspiring. The bridge itself, linking the mainland to the tiny island of Carrick a Rede, provided a thrilling experience.

Our journey continued with a delicious lunch at Fullerton Arms, followed by a guided walk at the Giant’s Causeway. This tour, led by knowledgeable local guides, took us through the stunning landscape of the Causeway Coast. Hearing the local history and stories added a personal touch to the experience, making it even more memorable. The sights and scenery were simply breathtaking, and the leisurely pace of the tour allowed for plenty of opportunities to take photos and ask questions.

Overall, this weekend was filled with adventures that I will cherish forever. From the immersive Titanic Belfast experience and the insightful Black Taxi Tour to the natural wonders of Carrick a Rede and the Giant’s Causeway, each moment added a new layer to my understanding of Irish culture and history. This journey has been an enriching exploration of my heritage, and I look forward to the remaining weeks of this incredible adventure.

Bennett I loved your blog. It was quite thorough in its analysis of the different events that we participated in. Each of your posts reminded me of the trip which is exactly how a blog should be. My one critique would be to add more of your writing style to the blog. Make it personable and fun even more than you already have. Over all, I hope to read this again in a few months and relive all the great times we had.
