This weekend was one of the most incredible of my life. Stella and I traveled to the French Riviera, aka Côte d’Azur. We flew into Nice on Saturday morning after a rough 2 a.m. wake-up. Immediately after stepping off the plane, I felt the sun beaming down on me and the incredible warm weather. We took the bus to Antibes, where we stayed, and immediately hit the beach. We were exhausted, but who could complain? The next day, we went to Grasse, the perfume capital of the world. We took the train and a bus there; I attribute my transportation-taking […]
On Saturday, our Bucknell group traveled around the Celtic Boyne Valley, where we visited the Hill of Tara, Trim Castle, Loughcrew Passage Tomb, and the Hill of Uisneach. The Hill of Tara dates back to the Stone Age and was once used as an ancient ceremonial and burial site. The site also used to be the seat of the High Kings of Ireland. The High King was chosen by the “Stone of Destiny” (Lia Fáil). Legend has it that the stone will let out a roar when touched by the rightful King of Tara. Additionally, we learned that from the […]
This trip has gone by so fast; I really can’t believe we still have almost half of our summer left to enjoy. On Wednesday morning of my internship, I attended the Connecting Artists 2024 Exhibition with my supervisor. The Connections Arts Centre of Ireland aims to help those with intellectual disabilities by providing accessible programs such as art, training programs, and mentorship. The exhibition showcases the work of those who participated in a ten-week mentorship and professional development program for artists with intellectual disabilities. This weekend, our Bucknell group traveled to Belfast, Northern Ireland. Our first stop was the Titanic museum, […]
On Thursday, we had a Bucknell group event at the Irish House party and a dinner and show event. At dinner, a few of us (including Dean Kepner) played connections to keep ourselves busy while we waited for food. I’ve wanted to try a Guinness stew since I arrived in Dublin, and I finally tried it! It was incredibly delicious and flavorful. After dinner, we headed downstairs for the show, where we watched and listened to a band play traditional Irish jigs. Some traditional Irish instruments included the fiddle, the harp, and the Uilleann Pipes. Throughout the show, we also […]
On Thursday, we had a Bucknell group event at the Stag’s Pub in the heart of Dublin, where we watched an Irish Folklore & Fairies show. The performer told stories of Irish tales about the fairies of Ireland. We visited three medieval castles this weekend: Rock of Cashel, Blarney Castle, and Cahir Castle. At Blarney, we waited an hour and a half to kiss the infamous Blarney Stone, where we would be granted the gift of eloquence (according to the legend). A few of us went to a local farmer’s market outside Dublin at Herbert Park on Sunday morning. There […]
