Final blog of the summer! Bittersweet to say the least. This weekend a bunch of us Bucknellians traveled to Amsterdam, Netherlands. I had no idea that the Netherlands used to be Holland. Frankly, I’m still confused as to why they changed the name in the first place. Our flight was early Friday morning and we explored Amsterdam as soon as we landed. Ariana and I visited the Rijksmuseum and looked at paintings by Rembrandt and Van Gogh, sculptures, and artifacts. This past week, I realized that our seemingly endless stay in Dublin is drawing to a close. With just ten days left in our program, and four of those days to be spent in Amsterdam, we only have six days left in this vibrant city. Six days to cherish our remaining time together and soak in every moment. While I miss my family and friends, I find myself wishing I could go back to the day I landed and relive every experience and emotion all over again. My girls! The past week was filled with celebrations, visitors, and packed schedules. The Fourth of July is my favorite holiday and one of the best weeks of the year because I am right on the cusp of sharing a birthday with the US. While I missed being with my family, my friends in Dublin made the day one to remember. I’ve missed playing lacrosse and the training regime my teammates and I often complain about. Waking up at 5:15 am every Monday for a 6 am lift is not something many of my friends can say they have to do. The anxiety of an early morning wake-up keeps you up most of the night, so I usually forget about having a productive Monday and Friday. Sleep deprivation controls everything about your life, but going to breakfast when the campus is silent is something I miss. I did not know about the Bucknell in Dublin summer program until my best friend and longtime teammate told me about her trip. Taylor LaMantia (TayLa/La/Le/Lama) and I grew up together in Wilton, CT and I was lucky enough to play with her for one season in high school before the COVID-19 pandemic canceled her senior year. Wilton is a small town where everyone knows each other. I remember growing up and seeing an intimidating fifth grader (La) in the halls and steering away from her at all cost.
