As sad as I am that this amazing trip is coming to a close, I am happy to say that I had a memorable last weekend in Amsterdam for our free weekend. My trip didn’t technically start till Saturday, because Jackson and I didn’t get to our hotel until 11:00 PM on Friday night. We spent the vast majority of the day on Saturday exploring the city. We realized early on that Amsterdam is much larger and more open than Dublin, with many different canals and quiet neighborhoods around every street corner. It didn’t take us long to realize that […]
Week 7 was an especially fun week for me because my family paid me a visit for the weekend. Although they were only here for a short time, I took pleasure in showing them around the city that I have called my home for the past 6 weeks. My weekend with my family began with a Friday trip to Howth Golf Club with my dad. After dropping off my mom and sister at the Howth summit, my dad and I enjoyed a relaxing round of golf at the seaside links course. I have to say, this was easily the most […]
Week 6 was another fun week filled with memories that I will never forget. On Thursday I celebrated my first Fourth of July overseas. It was definitely a culture shock to go into work on the Fourth considering my whole life the day was free from work and school and full of festivities. Nonetheless, a group of us went to Eddie Rockets to eat some burgers and hotdogs and drink some milkshakes as a way to mimic common American Fourth of July tradition. A couple of friends and I wanted to walk down to the pier after dinner to burn […]
Week 5 was another one for the books. It began with a night of fun and festivities at the Lansdowne Hotel. After enjoying a scrumptious meal of herb-stuffed chicken and mashed potatoes, we walked downstairs to the eventual highlight of the night; the Irish house party. Led by 4 musicians and a traditional Irish dancer, I had the pleasure of listening to the best Irish music to date. I quickly found myself singing and dancing along to the music, although I hardly knew any of the words. I was amazed at how the lead singer and guitarist, Jerry, was simultaneously […]
Week 4 was a week where I explored castles, heard about ancient Irish folklore, and learned so much about myself. It started with our trip to the Stag’s Head Pub on Friday. Upon entering the establishment, I was surprised to discover that the pub was actually underground. It had a super old-fashioned feel, with authentic booths lining the walls. Our tour guide’s thick beard and strong Irish accent certainly added to the vibe of the pub. He went on to entertain us with elaborate stories about Irish fairies and myths that the Irish have passed down for centuries. We then […]
