Bella Schraa Dublin Week 7

This week was another fabulous week in Ireland, this one being extra special since my sister, Malena, and dad came for the weekend. At this point in the trip, I felt like a bit of a tour guide, proudly showing my family around the amazing city I have become so familiar with. One thing I wanted to praise for this week was the sense of community through this program and Bucknell in general as this weekend truly highlighted that for me.  I was really looking forward to my sister coming, given she is not just my sister but my best […]

Tyler Thrutchley – Week 7

Week 7 was an especially fun week for me because my family paid me a visit for the weekend. Although they were only here for a short time, I took pleasure in showing them around the city that I have called my home for the past 6 weeks. My weekend with my family began with a Friday trip to Howth Golf Club with my dad. After dropping off my mom and sister at the Howth summit, my dad and I enjoyed a relaxing round of golf at the seaside links course. I have to say, this was easily the most […]

Visitors and Hiking

Wow! It is crazy to think that we are already on week 7 of this program, it felt like we just got here. I have enjoyed my time here to the fullest, and will remember all of these memories for the rest of my life. I am very grateful for this opportunity, and look forward to sharing my memories. This past weekend we visited the Hill of Tara, the Tomb Passageway, the Trim Castle, and the Hill of Uisneach. Like usual, I was taken away by the amazing scenery, and the history that inhabits all of these different places. One […]

Max Quan: Ireland Week 7

(Howth Light House) Standing on top of Howth’s many hills, I could see city, greenery, mountains, and beaches all extending into the sea. As I walked down a sandy path that wound about the cliff side, the guide pointed out a lighthouse below us. The positioning of the light house allows it an expansive view of all four cardinal directions. The mot important direction faces the Irish Sea. It was originally used as a Viking look out, and it helped the Vikings control Dublin. Later, it was used during the Napoleonic Wars to look out for the Napoleon’s Armada. The […]

Graney- Week 7 in Ireland

When I reflect on my seventh week in Ireland, I realize that it was far more eventful than it felt while I was living it. I feel I did a little bit of everything from continuing to explore Dublin to enjoying all of the natural beauty Ireland has to offer. Thursday was a day of the former. I was able to take a virtual day for work and made my way downtown to meet up with one of my best friends from home. Connor and I started our day on the River Liffey’s north side with breakfast at Ann’s Bakery, […]

Week Seven Blog

Friends, fries, and foraging. This week we went on a Celtic Boyne Valley Tour and Howth Cliff Walk. We drove to the Hill of Uisneach where you can see two-thirds of Ireland. This site is important in Irish Mythology because people were thought to have celebratory traditions on the rolling fields, decorated with monuments and earthworks. This location was the sacred center of Ireland because Irish gods were buried under a sacred tree. Next, we saw the Hill of Tara. This County Meath Hill was significant during the times of Ireland’s High Kings. The climb to the top revealed the […]
